The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is an Edmonton-based nonprofit institute that supports world-leading research in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) and translates scientific advancement into economic impact through industry adoption. - advances leading-edge AI/ML research conducted at the University of Alberta by funding academic research and empowering industry leaders to invest in Alberta’s world-leading talent and expertise,

- builds a highly skilled AI/ML workforce in by funding research positions to teach the next generation of professionals, and by developing and delivering educational training for technical teams, managers, and executives.

The Opportunity
This is an outstanding opportunity for a deeply experienced leader in business development and strategic partnerships to play a significant role in accelerating the adoption of AI/ML to create a more resilient, competitive, and diversified economy.
Reporting to the CEO, the VP Investment & Partnerships will serve as a key member of the executive team, leading the organization’s initiatives aimed at securing significant investments from major regional, national, and global companies.
Responsibilities:
- Design, create and execute a robust sponsorship program to support Amii’s continued growth and success,
- Work with the executive team, researchers, Board, and community cabinet to identify and connect with world-leading organizations to build research and corporate partnerships,
- Engage with partners and industry to develop opportunities that advance businesses along the AI adoption spectrum,
- Translate the interests of potential clients, investors, and partners into attractive opportunities for investment with Amii,
- Collaborate across the organization to establish and promote Amii’s position as a destination for world-leading research and collaboration,
- Work with other members of the executive team to enhance cross-departmental collaboration that furthers the organization’s strategic priorities,
- Lead, mentor and grow the Investment & Partnerships team.
The Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate, you are an accomplished business development professional who understands the vast potential for AI/ML to transform and accelerate the economy. Bright, curious, and strategic, you have an ability to conceptualize key trends and identify viable opportunities for growth and success.
Your professional success has been built on your exceptional talent for relationship building, collaboration, and negotiation. Confident and proactive, you lead by example, demonstrating individual drive and an uncompromising desire to achieve exceptional results while exhibiting a positive, group-win approach and a willingness to learn, teach, and share.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in driving sales and industry partnerships, including within the technology sector,
- 5 + years leadership experience,
- A degree in a related field such as Business, Public Relations, Computer Science or Engineering,
- Extensive experience building relationships with industry, at both the operations and executive leadership levels,
- A track record of success in business development and sales, with experience presenting to groups and executives,
- Demonstrated success in the design and execution of a corporate sponsorship program that secured major investments from large national and global companies,
- Experience in strategic planning and business case development,
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills, including the ability to distill complex issues into compelling communications,
- An understanding of, and interest in, Machine Intelligence, Machine Learning and AI.
